Every week in Kearny Mesa, on Wednesdays, we have a FREE Intro to West Coast Swing Class! You can come every week for free! No partner needed!

Our weekly Wednesday event is called “Westie Groove”…. we host classes followed by social dancing! We literally all just dance with each other to some awesome DJs. If you take the FREE Intro class and you ever want to stay and dance….it’s $10 to stay for the rest of the night. If you just want to stay for a bit after class and watch… that’s cool too!

what is west coast swing?

It’s is the best partner dance in the world! Well that’s our feeling at least!

West Coast Swing is a modern social dance that is sweeping the world… we dance to Pop, R&B, EDM, Country, Hip-Hop, Blues, Jazz and Acoustic! A lot of us fall in love with this dance because you can dance it to music we love and do it everywhere! Bars, weddings, home… and especially all over San Diego!

Our dance is an evolution of the original style of swing dancing, Lindy Hop. The short story is: Lindy Hop was popular when big band jazz was the music of the day back in the 40s. The dancers that stuck with the dance here in California, started dancing to modern music.. and it hasn’t stopped evolving since!

Recently, with the advent of social media, West Coast Swing has exploded and is danced all over the World! It’s a modern swing dance and a true American artform that was born right here in California!

what to expect

Come by yourself or with a friend to Westie Groove to take our FREE Intro class. When you get there you’ll be greeted by our registration team —->

Let them know you’re there for the Intro Class… they’ll point you in the right direction! If you already know you want to stay for the dancing, let them know that and they’ll collect your $10. You can also decide after class… all good. Never any pressure.

In class you’ll learn the basic steps and the basics of leading and following. We’re all nervous at first… we get it, we were all there, trust us…. it’ll change your life! It’s healthy, it’s magical and the people are awesome! All ages, all walks of life, all there to move our bodies and do something rewarding!

You can choose if you would like to Lead or to Follow… totally up to you! Many dancers do both!

In class, we rotate, meaning every couple minutes, the teacher yells “rotate” and we go in a circle and dance with someone new. That way you don’t get stuck with one person. Of course, some people feel more comfy staying with the friend they brought the first few times… that’s cool too!

We recommend taking the Intro class as long as it takes… some of us took it for 6 months… some moved through quicker! Move at your own pace… it’s FREE! Take advantage!

We also have awesome friends who have other classes all over San Diego! So if Westie Groove is not super close, and/or you want more practice and to experience new venues… definitely check out other classes! They’re awesome! There’s a list of other classes below!
